Le Marche comprises five provinces which make up a region where history, culture and natural landscape have contributed to render it a specially charming character, worth finding out.
Visiting this land gives you not only an opportunity to call to mind the unperturbed, pastoral environment, in the peace and quiet of the green hills, but also an occasion for cultural enrichment, through coming in contact with works of art, historical events, literary relics and legends, which can be found in totally unexpected places.
Walking around in the mountains, the visitor can discover, in the distance, small towns and villages, perching on hill-tops, generally of a attractive brick colour, with their impressive balconies overlooking the valley, surrounded by circular rows of walls, and their fortified look-out close to the bell-tower.
For centuries, history was determined by princes, who used to build a church after destroying a castle, and by innovative popes, who built castles and fortresses.
The agricultural scenery constitutes a strong characteristic element, which gives its structure to the complex environmental setting of Le March. Even today, in spite of the current transformation process, it shows signs of the historical evolution which has determined its way.
In the National Park of the Sibillini Mountains, some old country villas or manor-houses, unaltered examples of the share-cropping system architecture, have been turned into tourist farms (agriturismos), mainly in the higher areas, which welcome the traveller to stay the night and relax.
